About Hao

Hi, I am Hao.

I am a PhD candidate in Human-Computer Interaction at Swinburne University of Technology, with a Master of Engineering in Software Engineering. I have taught programming to university students in Australia and China, and I program in Python, C++, C# and Java. I teach in English and Mandarin, and I hold a current Victorian Working with Children Check.

In Semester 2, 2026, I taught weekly programming classes at Monash University. Each week, students submitted their code to me, and I wrote feedback to guide them towards their own solutions. In class, we then talked through the code together. When students explained their thinking, we could both see what they had mastered and where they needed more practice. I bring the same approach to our lessons, so that you can write code that you understand and can explain.

At The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, I taught Python tutorials to 180 undergraduates. In a game design course, I guided 35 students from a first concept to a working prototype and received an Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. Earlier, I worked as a research engineer and team leader in a robotics lab at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where I focused on software engineering. I built Unity interfaces that captured people's eye gaze, gestures, voice and facial expressions, and software that used this input to control robots. I also tutor an autistic student in game development one-on-one as a disability support worker.

Together, we work towards your programming goals until you can write code with confidence.

Maybe you are taking a programming unit at university or TAFE, or learning to code from scratch. We start from where you are and what you need.

Each lesson is 60 minutes. We take one idea at a time. First, we talk through the idea and try it out together in live code. Then we apply the idea to a new problem, with you at the keyboard.

If you study programming at university or TAFE, we work through the concepts in your unit together. We practise structuring, testing and debugging code side by side. For assessed tasks, we unpack the task requirements and practise the required skills on similar problems.

If you enjoy games, we build your own 2D and 3D games together in Unity and C#, and you learn to program along the way. Every game lesson ends with something new that you can play.

For VCE students, we plan our practice around the Software Development units of the VCE Applied Computing study design and the VCE Algorithmics (HESS) study design.

We meet online by default. We can also meet in person in Melbourne's inner east, with a parent at home for students under 18.

Lessons are 60 minutes. Online lessons are $45 per hour, and in-person lessons in Melbourne's inner east are $60 per hour, including a $15 travel fee. The first lesson is a free 30-minute session, and we use it to talk about your goals and where you are starting from. Packs of 5 lessons ($215) and 10 lessons ($405) are valid until the end of the school term or university semester in which they are bought. Payment is due before each lesson or when a pack is bought. Please give at least 24 hours' notice to reschedule. Late cancellations and missed lessons are charged in full, with one free late change per school term or university semester. For students under 18, a parent or guardian books and pays, and all messages include the parent or guardian.
