About India

Hi, I’m India! I’m a Maths, Economics and Physics tutor, teaching students from 11+ through to GCSE and A-Level. I graduated from the University of Exeter with a First-Class degree in Economics and Finance, and I now work in finance alongside tutoring. I’ve always been quite academic, but one thing I’ve learnt from tutoring is that being good at a subject and being able to teach it are two completely different things! I really enjoy taking something that initially seems complicated and breaking it down until it actually makes sense.

About the lesson

My teaching style is friendly and patient, but also very structured. I like to understand exactly where a student is struggling rather than just going through questions for the sake of it. We’ll make sure the foundations are solid first, then gradually work our way up to the more difficult questions as their confidence improves. I’m also quite big on understanding rather than memorising. Especially with Maths and Physics, I want my students to understand why a method works and how to recognise when to use it, so they’re able to tackle unfamiliar questions independently rather than feeling stuck as soon as a question looks slightly different. For GCSE and A-Level students, I also focus heavily on exam technique and how to actually pick up marks. Knowing the content is obviously important, but understanding what the examiner is looking for and how to approach different types of questions can make a huge difference. Most importantly, I want my lessons to be somewhere students feel comfortable asking questions and getting things wrong. I’m not expecting you to know everything already — that’s quite literally what I’m here for! My aim is for you to leave our lessons feeling more confident, capable and a lot less intimidated by the subject than when we started.
