About Hugo Guillermo

As part of my diverse international career as a university professor and researcher in biology, I have had students from the most diverse cultural and ethnic origins. In Barcelona Spain, I had Catalan middle-class students, very interested in the independence of their country and in the Barcelona soccer team, in Venezuela, I had students from popular classes interested in chemical ecology applied to agriculture and Gas Chromatography techniques, in Ecuador, I had brilliant young mestizo students of Quechua origin, the brightest of them, I sent to study master's degrees. In 2010, I did conversations in zoology with indigenous school children at Maniapiare Amazon State, Venezuela. Stephen J. O’Brien a great American geneticist helped me contact a Chinese entomologist Prof. Minsheng You, who granted me an honour position for foreigners known as Jinshan Scholar at Fujian Agricultural and Forestry University, FAFU (China), allowing me to teach/research in agriculture insect molecular evolutionary biology to Chinese youngest scholars.

I have been an academic who has applied to many international sources of funding for projects and also for work, and who has lived in many countries with different academic systems. This has allowed me to have a remarkable experience in the search for international funds and promote international academic cooperation. In my opinion, academic management cannot be done institutionally alone, must be done inter-institutionally, in a cooperative, horizontal way. I also get the followings awards in Biology 3. I did a Workshop in The Galapagos archipelago Ecuador to develop the D.A.R.W.I.N Program Development of Agricultural Resilience with Invigorated Nature (DARWIN). The general aim of the D.A.R.W.I.N. program was to develop sustainable agriculture in the Galapagos archipelago by promoting agricultural production with fewer synthetic inputs and promoting wild biodiversity. In the proposal, the tourism sector, which is the main industry in Galapagos, will regularly include among the main tourist attractions of Galapagos visits to ecological farms (a farm where production systems are based on ecological principles and where species of wildlife).
Participating Institutions were: Charles Darwin Foundation Ecuador, Agency for the Regulation and Control of Biosafety ABG Ecuador, Directorate of the Galapagos National Park Ecuador, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Ecuador, Fujian Agricultural and Forestry University RPC and Charles Sturt University Australia. I have been with Dr Angel Viloria (IVIC Venezuela) in charge of the Organization and Coordination of the 4th, 5th and 6th Tropical Ecology Field Course Venezuela 2010, 2011 and 2012 jointly between IVIC Venezuela and Jagellonian University of Cracow Poland (Prof. Ryszard Laskowski). The course provides insight into tropical ecology, flora and fauna, focusing on Venezuela. It covered the conservation of tropical rainforest from a regional and global perspective along with current and future threats to Venezuelan biodiversity through human activity. The course includes readings, seminars and workshops related to the natural history of the tropics, conservation biology and biodiversity methodology. The major project for this course was the preparation and development of research proposals and National Park Henry Pittier.
