About Lachlan
I recently graduated form Mandurah Catholic College in 2022 with a 92.9 ATAR also scoring 90% in my final math methods WACE exams. However, during most of high school, I wasn't very focussed on my academics and would rather play basketball. In basketball I played point guard in Championship division WABL and was a reserve for Western Australia Country team. When I did focus on my academics in year 10 I was always naturally good with numbers, but I hated english. I couldn't write an essay or analyse text or discuss my emotional response to a poster. Maths and sciences were the subjects that I excelled at, which explains what I study now at university. During year 12, I received an early offer from the University of Western Australia to study a double degree that was a bachelor in engineering (honours) and a bachelor of science, in which I would major in mechanical engineering and physics respectively. I am now in my second year of this degree and I still use and enjoy math everyday and I wish to help others learn more about it.

I have previously tutored year 12 math methods and my teaching style greatly depends on the student's understanding of the topics at hand. I feel as if I would be especially helpful tutoring year 12 Math Methods, as I recently completed the course and have a thorough understanding of all concepts and what they look for in exams. If they are unsure or not confident in their understanding, then I will ask them questions about the topic to see how much they understand. In maths, its so important to understand everything conceptually, and not just apply formulas. If they do not understand it in this way then I'll try to explain it differently, whether that be visually, example problems or just explaining the theory. For more confident students I will usually prepare practice questions along with very detailed answers that walk them through where they might have gone wrong. I plan to teach in a similar way for any high school student.
