About Olivia
Hi, I’m Olivia — a Physics student at the University of St Andrews offering tutoring in Maths, Physics and Chemistry.
I achieved As in both Physics and Chemistry at Advanced Higher, along with 5 As at Higher, and now study these subjects at university level. Having recently gone through the Scottish system myself, I understand both the content and the way it’s assessed.
Over the past year, I’ve worked with students at National 5 and Higher level, helping them improve their understanding and their grades — including pupils moving from C-level to A-level performance.
My approach is centred on building a solid, functional understanding of the material first. Once that’s in place, confidence follows naturally, and exam performance improves as a result. I aim to make difficult topics feel clear and manageable, so students aren’t just memorising methods but actually understanding what they’re doing.

We start with the parts that aren’t clicking, work through them until they make sense, and then practise applying them to exam questions.
A typical session might include:
- Breaking topics down step-by-step to build clear understanding
- Working through examples together
- Applying that understanding to SQA-style questions and past papers
- Identifying and correcting common mistakes
I focus on helping students understand how and why methods work, so they can apply them confidently in unfamiliar exam questions — not just repeat memorised steps.
Having gone through the system recently, I have a clear understanding of how marks are awarded. I help students pick up all available marks — not just by getting the right answer, but by showing their working and structuring responses in the way examiners expect.
Lessons are interactive and flexible. We can go over classwork, focus on specific weak areas, or work systematically through the course, depending on what’s most useful.
