About Jinwoo

Mathematics can be challenging! But once you get to understand the basics, everything will follow.
That is why in my lessons, the basics and principles of mathematics are not just taught to memorise and remember, but to thoroughly understand.
My qualifications in mathematics include an A in A-Level mathematics, and a 9 in GCSE mathematics. I have also taken part in the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) competitions on independent and regional levels, where I have been awarded a Gold award three times from Year 9- Year 11. Despite these successful results in mathematics awards and qualifications, I myself was not always a strong mathematician, and in younger years I struggled more. I believe this will allow me to help students overcome their struggles with mathematics, as with practice, anyone can become a strong mathematician.

About the lesson

Maths is a subject that can be very challenging, but once you get to understand the basics, everything will follow.
That is why in my lessons, the basics and principles of mathematics are not just taught to memorise and remember, but to thoroughly understand.
Understanding these principles are crucial for students to apply them in more challenging mathematical problems.
Furthermore, my lessons will usually be in the format of learning the principles and explaining questions that are set around these principles, but students will solve the questions based on the principles they have learnt independently, before engaging in these problems together.
This is to help their confidence and problem solving skills to grow, and help overcome fear in solving more challenging problems.
Usually, homework will be set to an amount that is beyond students’ abilities, not to add pressure on completion of all these problems, but for them to challenge themselves and solve more questions than they would have thought they could manage. Mathematics is a matter of how much practice and repetition can be done, as each problem solved will add on to the spectrum of different problems solving skills students will develop.

My lessons are provided for students from as early as 10 years old, to students preparing for GCSE qualifications and A-Level/ IB mathematics.
