Having tutored for 2+ years, I have found that it is best to tailor my lessons to the strengths and weaknesses of each individual pupil.
This is why my first lesson always begins with a short test to establish a baseline for future lessons.
My lessons usually focus on working through exam questions and ensuring that the pupil develops a deep understanding of the content that they are being taught. I also emphasise the importance of proper exam technique, and how to maximise the marks on given questions.
All of my lessons also aim to recap and retest prior material, in order to develop and solidify links between fields (e.g., for KS4, we may go through questions that combine two fields such as trigonometry and algebra)
Lessons typically last for one hour, though I do make frequent accommodations for longer lesson times, particularly during exam season.
