About Nathan

I am a 3rd year Law student at the University of York and have tutored maths for a year to three different students voluntarily during my A-level studies. I found it particularly rewarding to observe their marked progress in that my input had a positive impact. In the past I have had a student go from set 2 attaining 5’s to being moved to set one and the higher paper, ultimately achieving 6’s and 7’s at GCSE. Beyond this, I have also assisted a student to improve from grade 3’s to 4’s and 5’s which better enabled him to progress to college after the fact. Although I feel the most rewarding experience I had would be my experience with an individual with ADHD whereby we worked up to a year 9 level to improve his outlook on maths and to degrade his adverse opinions of the education system and more readily approach maths problems which he would previously outright reject.

About the lesson

I am an outgoing tutor who has a particular focus on using a more hands on, practical approach in order to better convey difficult concepts.

I will work through work sheets and explain the individual steps to each question answered so as to instil knowledge as to how to apply oneself within their exams.

My focus tends to start with an initial determination of potential weaknesses that have been self-identified by the student and working on those before moving on to the other parts of the curriculum. My sessions will be tailored specifically to the level of the given student and will also consider further needs of the individual student as I have done previously.
