About Alexander
Hi, I'm Alex, a 3rd year PPE student from Denmark and the UK. I grew up in a truly international environment, being taught mostly in French international schools in the US. Here, I got to see a variety of different teaching styles from professors and learning styles from students. I would quickly identify what styles worked well together. I always admired the teachers who managed to engage entire classes about subjects which they weren't necessarily, at least at first, interested about. All I've ever wanted is to replicate that, to teach someone and to see their eyes light up and their brain start to work. And for those for who that interest has already been unlocked, I want to see them reach their full potential. Teaching is a profession where you can truly impact the world and see that impact play out in front of your eyes. That is why I love teaching.

I teach differently depending on the level, but my unified approach is centred around getting a student interested in the subject by connecting it to the everyday world, other subjects, and the interests the student already has . I don't want a student just to be able to memorise information but to intuit new information based off the things he/she has already learnt. In history, I try to make the student appreciate historical trends. In philosophy, I make them understand the underlying logic and get them to think through and even create their own thought experiments and puzzles. In politics, I get them to understand the motivations of different political actors and the mechanisms that drive institutions. If a student understands the "why" of a subject, he/she is much more likely to understand the "what".
Lessons vary from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on a student's need. I teach all levels up until high-school/a-level and incoming university students.
My previous experience includes multiple tutoring stints in high-school and university. I also look to complete a PGCE (post-graduate certificate in education) so that I can teach full-time.

I met alex as friend and would've loved him as a tutor. Either way, I wouldn't be as curious and invested in political philosphy without him
Alexander has a genuine interest and love for the discipline which makes discussions with him very intuitive and insightful. Further, he is very well read and makes sure to integrate holistic points of view in all the arguments he makes. Lastly, he is very understanding and know how to push his students to a degree that they will realise their potential but is not unnecessarily demanding.
Alex is an intelligent and an incredibly giving teacher. His love for learning inspires his students, showing that topics don’t have to be painful and boring but instead interesting and eye-opening. By guiding the students to answer while giving them room make mistakes he creates an environment for the student to not only grow strong in the topic but also feel confident to face new challenges. Overall Alex teaches excellently. He is kind and knowledgeable as well as passionate about his topics. I can not recommend him enough !
