About

Introduction

Hi! My name is Keerthana, and I’m a high school sophomore with a long-standing passion for teaching and tutoring. I’ve loved helping others learn ever since 5th grade, and over the years, I’ve built meaningful tutoring experience working with students of different ages, abilities, and learning styles.

I began volunteering at Kumon (Pine Lake) in August 2025, where I supported younger students with foundational math skills. In October 2025, I started working at Kumon (Issaquah Highlands), further strengthening my ability to explain concepts clearly, stay organized, and adapt lessons to individual students.

In December 2025, I began volunteering with Connect Me Tutoring, a nonprofit organization that provides free academic support to underprivileged students. Through this program, I became the primary Algebra I tutor for a 7th-grade student—essentially acting as his main Algebra I teacher. We’ve made strong progress toward his goals through structured lessons, consistent practice, and a focus on true conceptual understanding. I also tutor a 4th-grade student, helping her stay on track with her school curriculum, homework, and test preparation.

I am currently enrolled in IB Pre-HL Mathematics: Analysis & Approaches, where I hold an A. This course is comparable to Pre-Calculus and emphasizes deeper conceptual understanding and problem-solving.

Teaching Approach

My teaching style is student-centered and highly adaptable. During our first session, I ask students how they learn best—whether they prefer:

Watching an example first, then trying on their own

Attempting problems independently before receiving guidance

Working through problems together step by step

If a student isn’t sure yet, I begin with a structured approach: explaining the concept clearly, guiding them through examples, and then having them practice independently with feedback.

I place a strong emphasis on concept mastery before moving forward and believe that improvement comes from consistent, targeted practice. I love using organized notes (color-coded if the student prefers!) when teaching new material, and I make sure students leave sessions feeling confident—not rushed or confused.

Because I’ve taken these courses recently, I’m very familiar with common student struggles and misconceptions, especially in algebra, which is my strongest subject and favorite to teach.

I work best with students who are willing to try, stay patient, and work through challenges, even when problems feel frustrating at first. I create a supportive environment where mistakes are part of the learning process, not something to fear.

Tutoring is something I genuinely love. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a student finally understand something that once felt overwhelming. Teaching is a big part of my future goals—I hope to become a professor one day—and I bring that same care and dedication into every session.
