About
Learning an instrument is one of the most enriching activities for your mind and body. Whether you are a beginner or continuing your studies, my lessons will guide you to healthy habits, advanced violin technique, and musical enrichment in your life.
As an artist, I believe that we never stop being students. That is, we never stop learning about our music and our world. I develop a curriculum for each student that is individual to your interests, goals, strengths, and areas for improvement.
If you...
- Want to learn a new hobby
- Are looking for beginner/continuing lessons for yourself or your child
- Are preparing for an orchestral/conservatory audition
- Want to learn play your favorite songs or study classical repertoire
- Want to learn how to compose for the violin
- Want to learn Viola!
My lessons can help you achieve your goals and more. For in-person lessons, I am available in NYC during the school year, and Baltimore/Towson during the summer. For Zoom lessons, you can tune in from anywhere. I am happy to come to your home for your lesson as I do not have a teaching space of my own yet.
A little about myself... my name is Rose Barranco. As a child, I tried every instrument I could possibly play, from trumpet to trombone, to clarinet, to cello, to piano, and of course to the violin. I began serious classical studies at the Baltimore School for the Arts under the tutelage of Baltimore Symphony violinist Ivan Stefanovic. I earned my Bachelors of Music in Violin Performance as a Richard Ortner Thrive Scholar at Boston Conservatory at Berklee under the mentorship of esteemed violinist Lynn Chang. As an active and enthusiastic chamber musician, I am a member of the Dante Piano Trio, coached by renowned professors Michael Lewin and Rhonda Rider. During the summer, I enjoy performing for local churches and festivals like the Harvard Chamber Music Festival. I am a frequent performer for the Emerging Artist Recital Series at Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival. This fall (2026), I will begin studies for a Masters of Music in Violin Performance at the Mannes School of Music on merit scholarship under the mentorship of esteemed violinist Ralph Evans. In addition to my violin playing, I study piano, composition, and occasionally viola. Outside of music, I love to spend time on long walks with my dog bruno and cook!
