About Rob

Hi, I’m Rob, a 5th-year Medical Student at the University of Edinburgh. With years of experience studying complex scientific and mathematical concepts, I understand how to break down challenging topics into clear, manageable steps. My goal is to help students not just memorise information but truly understand it, building both confidence and problem-solving skills. I have experience tutoring National 5 and Higher students in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and French, having previously worked with students preparing for exams. I know what it takes to succeed in these subjects and how to tailor lessons to different learning styles.

About the lesson

Hi, I'm Rob, a 5th-year Medical Student at the University of Edinburgh. With a strong background in science and maths, I tutor National 5 and Higher students in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and French. My experience includes tutoring National 5 students during my final year of high school, and I understand what it takes to build confidence and master challenging concepts. How I Teach: I tailor my lessons to each student’s needs, whether they’re struggling with a topic, need a confidence boost, or just want to reinforce their learning. My method focuses on active problem-solving, ensuring students understand concepts rather than just memorising facts. Each session follows a structured approach: Starter Questions – We begin by revisiting previous topics with short problems to reinforce learning and ensure retention. Main Session – I assess the student’s current understanding of the topic, then work through example problems, explaining key concepts along the way. Guided Practice – We work through problems together until the student feels confident enough to tackle them independently. Summary Questions – To finish, we review the session’s material with a few final questions to solidify understanding. Lesson Length: Typically 60 minutes, but can be adjusted based on the student’s needs. Who I Teach: National 5 and Higher students looking for support in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and French. I'm also happy to offer advice on studying techniques, revision strategies, and university applications. My goal is to make learning engaging, structured, and effective—helping students build confidence in their subjects while improving their grades.
