About Bernard

I am currently a 5th year medical student at UoA. Being a student on clinical placements, I am beginning to appreciate the fulfilment that comes from passing down knowledge. I have been lucky enough to come across great mentors all throughout most of my education which have shaped me into becoming the person that I am today, and I believe that it would be extremely rewarding to be able to feel like I have been able to have this sort of impact on another student's academic journey. I am here to provide guidance on study schedules, exam strategies, and even offer insights into the broader medical landscape. Alongside this, I would love the opportunity to be able to build meaningful relationships with my students which will also hopefully make the learning experience enjoyable!
Outside of medicine, I enjoy keeping active by going to the gym and regular runs, reading, and spending time outdoors with friends and family. I believe being having hobbies on the side are important and with that requires efficient time management skills, which is also something I would be able to offer advice on during my lessons!

About the lesson

Lessons can be 1 hour or longer depending on what the student feels they need! I aim to structure my lessons based around the needs of the student and what they want to get out of the session. There is heavy emphasis on the student's goals and expectations, and each session will ultimately aim to have the student feeling more confident in their knowledge and abilities. Resources such as lecture & courseguide notes and anki flashcards that I used will be able to be provided. Alongside this I will strive to keep my students motivated and thinking positively, which I know can be especially difficult during premed but I also believe that mental wellbeing is also just as important as academic success!
Lessons are designed for students currently in premed at UoA or anyone in high school wanting to get a head start on their preparation for their clinical programme application.
When I tutor I try to prioritise interaction, comprehension, and appreciation of the topic over rote memorisation and lecturing the student. I aim to teach rather than lecture!
I have had multiple years of experience tutoring maths for several companies since high school.
