About Taylor
Hello! My name is Taylor, and though I am still in my final year of school, I can't wait to begin my journey as a tutor. I am patient, understanding, structured, and eager to help!
I began teaching myself Chess a few years ago when I realized I was the only person in my friend group who didn't know how to play. I fell in love with the game, and now I am confident in both friendly and fun games and challenging opponents. I think it is super fun and engaging, with just the right amount of excitement and challenge. As well, the skill can become an opportunity for great family amusement or friendship icebreakers.
Chess, despite its perceived difficulty, is actually quite easy to start and learn at all ages with the right help. Chess can be enjoyed and learned as young as 5-8 years old, and it is proven that children who can play chess from young ages possess greatly improved critical thinking, problem-solving and academic performance later in life. But don't worry! Chess beginners come in all ages, and you don't need to be a pro to reap these cognitive benefits. Everyone should give it a try!

I am currently teaching Chess at a beginner level, focused on instructing younger people on the basics of the game, including the pieces, the Checkmate, and the varying openings and strategies to become a pro!
I really believe a tutor should be focused and dedicated to their student, and should strive to understand how their student uniquely learns in order to work in a way that is tailored to suit their needs and make them feel supported.
Personally, as a tutor, I believe in active lessons with engaging explanations and exciting demonstrations. I think chess should be really fun for all ages! I don't give up, and I promise to teach you in as many different ways as you need until you are confident in your independent understanding.
Online lessons can last for any amount of time from just 30mins+. In-person lessons may last whatever timeframe fits you, from 45mins-3+ hours. Online lessons can be taught over Zoom, Microsoft Teams, phone calls, or whatever is suitable for you. In-person lesson locations are flexible and negotiable. I can provide a chessboard or other necessary materials.
