About Joseph
I am a chemist with decades of experience teaching and mentoring students. I have a Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry from Purdue University; Masters degree in organic chemistry from Western Michigan University; Bachelors degree from the University of Ghana and; Masters in Business Administration degree from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. I have taught and mentored chemistry students at St. Mary's University, San Antonio College and St. Philips College (all in San Antonio). I am an accomplished scientist with several scientific publications and US patents.

My goals as a teacher are to guide and motivate my students to be the best chemists they can be, capable of competing with their peers from any institution in the world. My approach to teaching involves generating excitement in the classroom through active participation by students, emphasizing problem solving, and enhancing understanding of theoretical concepts by use of relevant laboratory experiments. Many students come in with the preconceived idea that chemistry is hard and see the course just as an obstacle to be cleared and get it out of the way. I feel it is my responsibility to demystify their thinking, prove them wrong and make them disciples of chemistry by the end of the course. I engage students with a lot of problem-solving during class and use online tools like MasteringChemistry.
