About Kerry
I have a very diverse background. I started in the Army, then worked as a Chef, Restaurant Manager or Owner. I then decided to stop the long days and nights of the restaurant industry. I spent some time as a Truck Driver, Private Investigator and then, I became a Financial Advisor.
After a lot changed in the financial services industry, I closed my practice.
I then started my journey of becoming a teacher. I enrolled at Bethel College to obtain a Master's Degree in Teaching. While I was doing that I was also Substitute Teaching at Penn High School in Mishawaka, IN.
Some family issues brought me to Indianapolis. I began teaching at The Chefs Academy, until they had to cut back staff and eventually closed the Indianapolis Campus.
I then found Mathnasium. I spent a small amount of time as an instructor before I was asked to become the Center Director in Fishers. Unfortunately, not quite two years later, that center would close. We moved to Florida and eventually found Mathnasium in Brandon and was hired to become the Center Director at their new center in Riverview.
I use all of these experiences when I teach. It helps to pull the numbers off of the page and bring the math to life for that student.

I start by evaluating where the student is, in relation to their grade level.
From there, I build on what the student knows and what the student doesn't know yet.
Once we have established what they know and don't know, I build a learning plan. I combine skills and their homework.
I, also, try to maintain a good working relationship with the student's teacher. We must work together, or we will miss our goal of helping this student to grow.
