About Doris

I am a committed piano tutor with 9 years of experience teaching high school and college students. Over the course of my tutoring career, I have successfully mentored around 300 students, helping them build strong technical skills and a genuine appreciation for music. My teaching philosophy is built on three core principles: accountability, adaptation to learning styles, and clarity. I believe that setting clear, attainable goals and tracking progress regularly keeps learners motivated and committed to their musical growth. Every learner grasps things differently, so I take time to understand each individual's strengths and challenges, adjusting my methods to match their pace and style, whether that means more visual demonstration, repetition, or hands-on practice. Clarity is something I prioritize in every session, breaking down piano techniques, music theory, and note reading into simple, easy-to-follow steps so learners build a solid base before moving to more advanced ideas. My sessions cover everything from proper hand posture and finger drills to sight reading, rhythm training, and music theory fundamentals. As learners progress, I also focus on expression, dynamics, and performance confidence, preparing them for exams, personal enjoyment, or advanced musical pursuits. My ultimate goal is to build a structured, supportive, and adaptive learning space where every learner feels confident and motivated to keep growing as a musician.

My teaching method for Piano, Music Theory, and Sight Reading centers on building strong fundamentals while giving each learner a clear route to steady progress. With years of guiding learners through their musical path, I have formed a methodology that keeps learning structured, personal, and rewarding.

Accountability is a core piece of how I teach. I set clear, attainable goals with each learner and track their progress regularly, so they always know what they are working toward and how far they have come. This keeps learners committed and helps build solid practice habits over time.

Adaptation to learning styles is something I take seriously in every session. Some learners grasp ideas better through visual explanations, others through repetition or hands on practice. I observe how each learner grasps best and adjust my teaching methods accordingly, whether that means more demonstration, simplified explanations, or extra practice exercises.

Clarity guides how I explain every idea. I break down piano techniques, music theory, and note reading into simple, easy to grasp steps, avoiding needless complexity so learners can build a solid understanding before moving to more advanced material.

My sessions typically start with hand posture, finger drills, and basic note reading, gradually moving into rhythm practice and music theory fundamentals. I make sure learners grasp the reasoning behind techniques, not just how to perform them mechanically.

As learners advance, I add sight reading practice to boost their ability to play new pieces confidently, along with ear training to strengthen their sense of pitch and rhythm. For those drawn to performance, I also focus on expression, dynamics, and stage presence.

I tailor my teaching to fit each student's personal goals, whether they learn piano for enjoyment, work toward grade exams, or pursue advanced musical training. My overall goal is to build a clear, accountable, and adaptive learning space where every learner can grow with confidence.
