About Dan

I picked up the accordion after college (Harvard- Art History) when I didn't have access to a piano. After a while I was hooked and wanted to play everything. I used to put on my accordion and walk around San Francisco playing whatever I felt like (the 1970's). Sometimes I was invited into a restaurant for a free meal in exchange for some music. I joined Bread and Roses as a volunteer, playing for people who were institutionalized, hospitals, nursing homes, community centers. I was a big hit with the older generation who remembered the accordion music from their youth. One day Mimi Farina (Joan Baez' sister) called me to play a paying gig at a book signing and after the gig, the manager gave me $75 in cash. I had never thought of playing for money, but a lightbulb went off and I decided to put myself out there as a working musician. It took awhile, but I started picking up more and more gigs, playing private parties, weddings, wine tasting and corporate events. I also began to teach individuals with a desire to learn the "squeezebox," and have continued to.this day with great feedback from students and fast improvement in their playing. I think learning should be fun and start wherever the student is and in the direction and style of music desired. Sincerely, Dan Cooper

About the lesson

I take an approach that is personalized to your experience and goals. I am a patient and encouraging teacher and believe in learning technique by playing songs right from the start. No boring drills. My lessons are both fun and focused for beginners to intermediate players.
