About Donald
"Playing clubs for 7 years with just my guitar and a mic taught me exactly what holds up when the spotlight hits. My name is on a degree from Berklee and I have spent 12 years figuring out how to play music that actually lands with a crowd. Most of the folks I work with are self-taught players searching for a real structure or absolute beginners holding a guitar for the first time.
I often find that working professionals need the same honest feedback as the fresh students I teach. My approach is to strip away the fluff until only the essential performance skills remain.
You will find that I keep things pretty loose during our time together while maintaining a very structured path underneath. I have helped countless students find their voice in the tradition of legends like Guthrie and Dylan. Music theory and ear training are just tools to help you perform with total confidence. "Why should you bother learning music theory if it does not help you play a better show? My goal is to make sure your chord transitions and scales actually serve the song you are singing.
We will spend time on power chords and improvisation while getting you comfortable reading sheet music when the situation calls for it. I draw on my time at Berklee to help you prepare for grade exams without losing the spark that made you pick up the instrument.
You get a monthly recorded review of progress so you can hear exactly how far you have come. It is really just about making sure you sound good when you are out there gigging. Feel free to reach out if you want to chat about your goals."
