Whether you're a beginning actor or seasoned professional, having an acting coach really helps hone your skills and develop your talents.
Learn how to develop nuanced and sub-texted auditions, strong characters and story arcs with clear actions. Learn how to audition for stage directors, college and grad school interviews and casting directors for film and television. Below is an article I wrote for Dramatics Magazine on how to choose a monologue which will serve you.
I am an acting coach, professional actor (AEA, SAG-Aftra) and professional director (SDC) with 20 years of teaching and practical experience. I have taught at Stella Adler Studio, AMDA, Hunter College and Brooklyn College Theatre programs. I specialize in teaching acting and audition techniques. Many of my students have gone on to undergrad and graduate college acting programs and professional acting careers.
Cristina Duarte was my Intro to Acting professor for Spring 2020, otherwise known as the Armageddon for all college students thanks to Coronavirus. She was patient and caring with all of us, including those who had familiar matters happen, and honestly even though Acting isn't my major she was one of the best professors i've ever had. Thank you! And continue to be blessed! :)
Cristina was my acting teacher for a year. She is an amazing teacher and a person. She helps you understand the character you are playing by knowing the character's motives. I recommend Cristina to other Superprof members because she doesn't give up on a student until that student does the best job she/he can do. I learnt a lot from her and improved my acting skills drastically.
The things I studied with Cristina are coming in handy for the rest of my life!!! Love her work and get style. No question is out of the question, and she adjusts quick. I recommend her for all levels of study!!!
Cristina is experienced, honest, and personable. Cristina also gets tough exactly when you need a push. I was working on a monologue from a Harold Pinter play, and I was not fully sure of the circumstances for my character. Cristina borrowed my copy and read the entire play before the next class. The circumstances were ambiguous indeed, and she helped me learn how to make my own choices in such situations. Cristina has also been innovative and helpful under COVID-19 restrictions as my class with her shifting to being online in the middle of the semester. Cristina is excellent.
Working with Cristina for the past year has been amazing. She teaches presence, getting into character, audition tactics, and much more! She also helped me Ace an audition for an acting school in London, and I got in! My acting skills have increased tremendously since working with her!
I had Cristina for a fifteen-week-long Auditions Technique class and I learned so much from her. I'm a fairly confident actor but for most of my life I've been terrible at auditions and after taking this class I've improved tenfold. We are going through unprecedented times right now and Cristina made our class's transition from in person to online completely seamless, which I appreciate and commend her for.
I think she is a great teacher. I have learned a lot in her class. She delivers the information well and is understanding of student needs. I think she makes acting an enjoyable process. There will be decent amount of work in her class but work that makes sense to shape your future in the field. I highly recommend her.
Professor Duarte is amazing at her craft. She has years of experience and will help you find and develop your own craft. Her courses are a must for both beginners and advanced users.
