About Pedro
Pedro Carmo is an accomplished actor, director, and teacher with over 25 years of experience in the performing arts. His work spans theatre, film, and television, with notable credits on Broadway, as well as prestigious international roles in productions across Portugal, the USA, and beyond. From his time as a series regular on Equador and The Only Woman in Portugal, as well as performances in the US TV shows Blacklist, Evil, Person of Interest, Pan Am and others, to his roles in internationally acclaimed films such as Mysteries of Lisbon (Cannes Festival) and This Side of Resurrection (Toronto Festival), Pedro has consistently delivered powerful and nuanced performances.
As a theatre actor, Pedro's work includes performances in iconic productions such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s on Broadway and Absolution Off-Broadway, where he has showcased his range in leading and supporting roles. His commitment to authenticity and emotional depth has been integral to his success, with standout performances in The Constitution in NYC and God’s Ear in Lisbon, where he demonstrated his ability to connect deeply with characters and audiences alike.
In his work as a director and teacher, Pedro brings this wealth of professional experience to his students. His approach is deeply personalized, recognizing that every actor has a unique voice and style. He emphasizes the importance of creativity and imagination as well as personal experience in acting—believing that the truest performances come from an actor’s ability to convey their own stories through the characters they portray. Pedro’s teaching is grounded in this philosophy, helping students connect with their own imagination while also maintaining the integrity of the script and the circumstances of the character.
Pedro’s teaching spans a variety of settings, from high school students in the Waterwell Drama Program in New York to professional actors seeking to enhance their craft. His workshops are designed to foster creativity and self-discovery, encouraging actors to explore their full range of expression while remaining grounded in the text. Additionally, he has directed and taught at Saudade Theatre in the U.S., where he nurtures non-actors and professional actors alike, helping them discover their intuitive creativity and apply it to a variety of media, including Stage, TV, and Film.
Whether coaching aspiring performers or seasoned professionals, Pedro is dedicated to guiding actors to their fullest potential, not only as artists but as individuals. His students benefit from his broad experience, including his extended experience as a Stage, Film and TV performer as well as his strong foundation in both Directing for Theatre and for Film, which informs his structured yet empathetic approach to teaching. With a commitment to both the craft and the personal growth of his students, Pedro Carmo continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of performers.

As an acting coach with over 25 years of experience, I focus on a personalized, student-centered approach to teaching. I believe each actor brings their own unique style, and my method is designed to uncover and nurture that individuality. My technique is rooted in the understanding that the truth of acting comes from personal experience. It’s through tapping into one's own creativity, imagination, and life experiences that an actor can truly bring depth and authenticity to a character.
However, I also emphasize the importance of respecting the circumstances within the script or play. While I encourage creative exploration and thinking outside the box, I firmly believe that a professional actor must interpret the material in a way that aligns with the world and context of the play. Character development is a balance between personal expression and the narrative constraints of the work.
Whether preparing for an audition or a long-term project, I work closely with actors to define characters that are both true to themselves and consistent with the story’s vision.

Pedro directed a theatre group in Lisbon, Portugal for several years where I've learned how to be more conscious of myself. It was an amazing experience, and I've learned not only acting skills but also it was an enriching period of community building. The plays that he directed for us where consistently appraised by the audiences and he is still missed by the group.
