About Nicholas
I am a 21-year-old student going into my fourth year at Western University where I study Actuarial Science. My teaching experience comes from the last four years where I have taught children and teenagers how to swim and how to be water safe as well! Teaching runs in my family as both of my parents are high school teachers and I know how the process of being a teacher works.

Teaching Methodology and Techniques As a math tutor, my approach is centered on clarity, patience, and confidence-building. I aim to demystify mathematical concepts by breaking them down into manageable, intuitive steps. I use a blend of conceptual teaching, visual aids, problem-based learning, and real-life applications to help students grasp both the “how” and the “why” behind mathematical processes. I tailor each lesson to the student’s learning style—whether visual, auditory, or kinesthetic. I frequently use scaffolding techniques, starting with what the student already understands and gradually building toward more complex topics. Encouraging active participation and asking guiding questions are key elements of my sessions. A Typical Lesson Plan A standard session typically follows this structure: Warm-up / Review (5–10 mins): Brief review of previous material or a few warm-up questions to activate prior knowledge. Objective Introduction (5 mins): Clear statement of what we’ll cover and why it matters. Core Instruction (20–30 mins): I teach the new concept using examples, visuals, and analogies, ensuring the student engages with questions and practice along the way. Guided Practice (15–20 mins): The student works through problems with my support—gradually decreasing scaffolding. Independent Practice / Challenge (10 mins): More advanced or exam-style problems to test understanding. Wrap-up / Questions (5 mins): Recap the main ideas, identify trouble areas, and set goals for the next session or assign optional practice work.
