About Sarah
I graduated from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) in 2014, where:
- I won two Dean's Certificates for the highest grades in the third-year electives 'International Humanitarian Law and Advocacy' and 'International Legal Practice: Interpretive Approaches'
- I represented the university in the Jessup Moot and the Australian Red Cross moot competition, and took part in a study tour to the USA to discuss international law with leading academics and lawmakers.
- I wrote a HD-awarded thesis on the application of command and group liability to war crimes involving autonomous weapons systems.
Since then, I've taught international law as a sessional academic, with a focus on teaching first-year students who have little or no prior experience in international law. I've also coached successful moot teams in public international law, space law, and international humanitarian law.
I have experience teaching via web conference with individuals and groups on Skype, Facebook, and other platforms.

I base my classes on practical problems and class dialogue. If you're not familiar with basic legal research and writing, we start with that. You'll learn the IRAC method (issue-rule-application-conclusion) for analysing a legal problem, and I'll introduce you to the basic sources of international law and show you how to find them, understand them, and apply them.
Once we've covered the basics, I encourage students to come to each class with a pre-arranged case or reading to discuss in detail. We'll still use the IRAC method to help you prep for exams, but we'll go into more detail about jurisprudence, customary law, and treaty interpretation.
The best way to learn is to teach, so I also teach students how to organise ideas effectively and be able to summarise them in legal conversation. I hope that we can get you reading, thinking, and speaking effectively about international law in no time :)
