About Maaike
I am a Computer Science graduate (2:1), with a long history of teaching/tutoring. I have taught Mathematics at a secondary level, and covered tutoring Mathematics modules at a university level. I completed both my Maths and Physics A-levels, with an A*, and A grade respectively. I am super passionate about physics, and have continued studying it alongside my degree.
As someone with ADHD myself, and with experience supporting students with additional needs, I understand how important engagement is in learning. It’s not just about understanding the content, exams require a completely different set of skills. I’m passionate about helping students develop practical strategies to manage focus, recall information under pressure, and feel confident in their ability to succeed.

My focus is very practice-heavy. I know how difficult it is in the pressure of exam season to bring things to mind, I want to make sure that my students are brought to a level of full understanding, beyond simply memorising, so that they can approach each problem with confidence and ease.
I put engagement first, so that my students are proactively learning to be able to think on their own feet, which is essential in an exam space. The student is my priority, and whatever works for them, works for me.
Step one: Ensure that the core concepts are fully understood in a logical manner - practice, practice, practice
Step two: Focus on introducing scenario-based questions that bring in the subject matter in an unexpected way, and practice with them identifying what the question is targeting (this is how students are often caught out in exams)
Step three: Delve deeper into their individual exam board's requirements and style of questioning for a targeted approach (AQA, OCL etc.)
