About Jonathan

I am a dedicated euphonium player, composer, and musician with a passion for both performance and music education. My playing focuses on producing a rich, expressive sound while maintaining strong technical accuracy, musicality, and attention to detail. Throughout my musical journey, I have studied advanced euphonium literature, prepared for honor band and All-State auditions, and developed a deep appreciation for the artistry behind great performances. As a musician, I believe music is more than playing the correct notes, but it’s about telling a story, communicating emotion, and connecting with an audience. My experiences as both a performer and composer have helped me develop a strong understanding of interpretation, phrasing, and musical expression, which I strive to share with my students. Whether performing lyrical solos, challenging technical works, or ensemble repertoire, I am committed to continuous growth as a musician and helping others discover their own potential through music.

About the lesson

As a euphonium tutor, I focus on developing strong fundamentals while helping students discover their own musical voice. My teaching emphasizes tone quality, breathing, articulation, technique, intonation, musical expression, and performance confidence. A typical lesson includes warm-ups, technical exercises, scale work, etudes, and solo or ensemble repertoire tailored to the student’s goals. I believe in teaching not only the notes on the page, but also the story and emotion behind the music, helping students become thoughtful musicians rather than just players. What sets me apart is my passion for advanced repertoire, composition, musical interpretation, and my ability to connect technical skills to real musical expression. Lessons are available for beginning, intermediate, and advanced euphonium players, including students preparing for honor bands, auditions, solo performances, chair placements, and college music programs. My goal is to create a positive and challenging environment where students can grow both technically and artistically while developing a lifelong appreciation for music.
