About Candis

Spending 11 years focused on guitar has granted me a deep understanding of music theory and physical technique. My history includes instructing students on lead guitar, improvisation, soloing, tuning, maintenance, grade exam prep, reading sheet music, barre chords, songwriting, acoustic technique, and ear training.

Teaching is about recognizing that guitar is largely a matter of pattern recognition that anyone can grasp. Patterns are the fundamental building blocks of music. Working with students requires a steady hand and a clear head.

I prioritize honesty in my feedback to ensure technical growth remains constant. Sometimes I find myself explaining the same complex concept in 3 different ways to ensure it clicks for the listener. Developing technical mastery takes time, patience, and consistent effort.

Since the best discoveries happen mid-conversation, I often abandon my pre-planned structure to follow a student's curiosity. Song requests are frequently turned into simplified arrangements that highlight the core mechanics of the piece.

My 11 years of experience guide this process. Adaptability is key. Jazz fusion icons like Holdsworth and Metheny influence my approach to fretboard navigation.

Scofield remains a primary inspiration for phrasing. I maintain a 9.0 rating for the way I break down these complex, adventurous styles. Lessons are meant to be a collaborative space for exploring new sounds.
