About Willy

Hi, I'm Willy Wilde. Most people picture the violin in one setting — a grand concert hall — but it's secretly one of the great travelers of music, singing in folk barns, jazz clubs, film scores, and traditions from every corner of the globe. I've spent years exploring that surprisingly vast world, and there's nothing I love more than venturing through it alongside a curious student.

What keeps me teaching is the thrill of discovery — watching someone find a style of playing they never knew the violin could do and light up because they've found a corner of music that feels like theirs. Giving people that sense of adventure is the part of teaching I treasure most.

Here's what I believe: curiosity is the best fuel there is for learning. The world of music is far bigger and more wonderful than most people realize, and I'm certain there's a place in it made just for you — you only have to go looking. So even if you don't yet know what kind of violinist you want to be, that's perfect; discovering it is half the joy, and I'd love to help you do exactly that.

Whatever's drawn you to the violin — a particular sound you're chasing, a wide-open curiosity, or just a sense that there's a whole world in there waiting — come and explore it with me. It's a marvelous adventure, and I'd be delighted to be your guide.

About the lesson

I like to start by discovering what draws you to the violin — the music that moves you, and the sounds you've always wanted it to make. And from the very first lesson I'll share a wonderful truth: the violin travels far beyond the concert hall, at home in folk, jazz, film music, and traditions from all over the world — and much of the joy is exploring together to find where it sings for you. There are no wrong answers here, only new places to venture.

We'll build the foundations with care, because they're what unlock everything — a relaxed hold, a free bow arm, dependable intonation, and a warm tone. But rather than drilling in a vacuum, I'll keep opening new doors for you: soaring classical melodies, lively fiddle tunes, jazz, and more, so you build real skill while discovering just how many voices this one instrument can have.

I'll always be honest and encouraging, and I'll give you one clear thing to focus on at a time. And I'll keep the spirit curious and warm, because a squeak or an experiment that wobbles isn't a failure — it's simply part of the adventure, and often just where you'll discover something new about the instrument and yourself.

Most of all, this is about the joy of discovery, so we'll keep exploring and celebrate every find along the way, at whatever pace suits you. Wherever you're starting from, my hope is to be your guide on a real musical adventure — one where you build genuine skill and uncover just how wide and wonderful the violin's world can be.
