About Durgesh

My aim as a tutor would not only be raising a student's grade in one subject, but also to show them a learning structure which they could potentially adopt for themselves if they were to consider taking on a higher level of education in the future.
I'm currently a 20 year old Aerospace Engieering student with some free time. With my skillset and previous experience in tutoring I've realised that I have the potential to help younger students with my lesson structures.

I have 1 year of experience in private tutoring with two students. The first was showcased in the title, where I helped an old friend get from a 4 to a 7 in maths, in 6 months.
My second student was a mother trying to get into teaching English but had poor math abilities. I was able to get her to pass her maths test (one of the few required) to get her into the teaching courseshe wanted at a university.
Besides tutoring, I've volunteered at aprimary school before, planned lessons, marked homework and even helped an exchange student learn in her own language (it's quite a challange). I've also been able to clearly explain mathematical methods, scientific and engineering concepts throughout late secondary school to today to my friends when they need help.

Besides skills and examples that may help in tutoring, I'm not as scary as some teachers, since that could be a worry for some students. There shouldn't be fear in getting things wrong, as long as you learn from the mistake and answer the same type of question better the next time. Patience and perserverance is key when you're learning effectively at something you struggle at.

I am comfortable teaching maths and physics at AS level and below (GCSEs, etc.)

My approach:
- An initial diagnostic test to get an understanding of your strengths and weaknesses.
- Covering the topic you currently study in class and any topics you find difficulty in (I won't judge, everyone has their weaknesses).

I have a flexible tutoring style, which would include the preferences of what the student wants in their lessons and out-of-session homework. This means my sessions may vary from 1 to 2 hours depending on the choice of learning styles the student prefers, which are listed below:
- Answering questions you struggled with in your class for the week's lessons with working out
- Extra homework around questions you struggled to answer, if desired
- A lesson on a weak topic and then reviewing the homework I will provide the following session, if desired

Cancellation fees:
I appreciate transparency as for me a 1 hour session is not the total time and effort that I put into a lesson. For students with lesson packs, I do not mind arranging a 50% cancellation fee with superprof. This is strictly for 24 hours before a session.
My cancellation policy is 100% because it takes 1 hour minimum out-of session to: prepare a lesson and review the student's work etc. This means I don't work for 12.50 an hour for the total work I put into a lesson.
As a full-time student, it also means I have scheduled to fit you into a busy schedule on top of the preparation, so I appreciate transparency when you can't make a session.
