About Carolyn
My name is Carolyn (she/her) and I am a recent graduate from the University of Alberta. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and Psychology in 2022, and an After-degree in Secondary Education (Major in Biology and Minor in Chemistry) in 2024. I completed my professional experiences (IFX and AFX) in Edmonton high-schools and have found immense success in each. I have been involved in STEM education for the majority of my life, volunteering with various organizations. I've hosted plenty of STEM competitions, led a variety of classroom workshops, and developed curriculum for Canada-wide initiatives.
While I'm not teaching (or lesson-planning), I'm often invested in my photography and cinematography work (or browsing local cuisine).

Hi there! You might be wondering what sets me apart from other tutors! Firstly, I am a new graduate from the University of Alberta with an After-degree in Secondary Education, which means that I have taught in a couple of schools! I have a wide repertoire of techniques that I have tried and tested to make my students successful. Some of these techniques include whiteboard activities, games, flashcards, and my favorite, applications to the real world (it is way more fun than it sounds).
Before we start tutoring, I always offer a FREE first consultation to get to know who you are as a student AND a person. This will allow me to tailor your lessons to help you achieve YOUR goals! It will also give me some time to curate a variety of resources that you can keep to use to study. A typical lesson involves going over problems encountered in school, followed by review activities and a wrap-up (along with some optional homework).
My tutoring classes target students that are currently undertaking the Alberta curriculum (although all other students are welcome as well) from middle school to high school. Special exceptions can be made for elementary-grade students. While I do teach mainly biology, chemistry, and all levels of science, I can assist with rudimentary English and CTS courses.
