I had an excellent teacher for algebra 1 that taught all the techniques towards learning Algebra 1 (I give them the credit). I will typically go through a couple math problems and explain how it is done. If my student doesn't get it, I will explain it and go further detail by giving examples. If they are still struggling, I will revert back to the basic concepts of algebra 1 and gradually make into the problem to retry. I will typically let the student try on their own after giving a couple examples or walking them through a couple problems. If they mess up, I will typically walk them through what area of the problem they got wrong and why it is wrong.
