About Crystal

I am an American English teacher. I have been teaching English online for over 4 years, and have taught thousands of students on other websites. My students have been all ages (the youngest was 2 and the oldest 75), all English ability levels( Beginner to Advanced), and from many different countries (For example Turkey, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Brazil, Egypt, Morroco, China, S. Korea, Japan, Vietnam).

I also tutored university students, in various subjects, but mostly History and English, for almost 4 years while I was in university.

I have lived in a few different countries around the world, Italy, Scotland, Romania, and Turkey, teaching English in all except Scotland.

About the lesson

I give lessons to students of all ages and ability levels. However, my lessons structure and content is different depending on the age and current English level of the student I am teaching. The student's goals for learning English and personal interests also influence how I give their lessons.

I especially enjoy teaching children because it allows me to have more fun and be creative. I have developed some educational games I like to use during lessons with children to practice and improve different skills. Though I have had some adult students who played the games with me as well, and some even said they would play my games with their children to help them learn English too!
So I also enjoy fun, casual, lessons with adults as well. My general goal in teaching is not just for students to learn English, but for students to actually have fun and enjoy learning!

My teaching method is what is known as the Direct Method, which is also sometimes called the Natural Method, where only the target language, the language being taught (English in this case), is used to teach. This works because visual aids and other things (pictures, objects, gestures and sounds, etc.) are used to help explain new words to students. The Direct Method has been shown to be very effective in teaching English, and is considered similar to how children learn their first language.
