About Sarah

If I hadn't had the wonderful foreign language teachers that I had growing up, I would never have discovered all the doors that learning a language can open. Cultural exchange, friendships, employment opportunities; the list goes on. As an educator, I hope to show my students the same possibilities while making learning English fun, accessible and less intimidating than it sounds.

I am currently working with French students as an English language assistant. I also give private lessons to three other students, two of whom I still work with.
Before that, when I was a university student, I was always involved in some educational program or another, whether as an essay consultant or as a volunteer teaching literacy to children.

I take my role as an educator very seriously and work hard for my students to achieve their goals, but above all, I am approachable. Learning a language can be scary because we are afraid of making mistakes and embarrassing ourselves. I accept and even encourage mistakes in my lessons because they are precious teaching moments and mean my student is stepping up and taking risks, which can only lead to growth and improvement.

About the lesson

With a degree in French literature and German studies, I know well the challenges of learning a foreign language. My teaching approach is not a single methodology; everyone learns differently, and this is especially true for languages.

A typical lesson begins with a quick 5-10 minute warm-up exercise and a student check-in where I explain what we will be working on during the session. We then move on to the prepared lesson. This lesson may consist of reviewing and continuing a grammar lesson from a previous session, practicing conversation around a specific topic, video or article, a new grammar lesson, exercises to be continued in the next lesson, or an oral expression activity that targets specific skills such as debates, descriptions, the use of idioms,… all corresponding to the student's objectives.

Je suis en mesure de dire que Sarah coche toutes les cases d'une excellente prof d'anglais : disponible, sympathique, américaine et disposant d'une riche culture des Etats-Unis et de la France. Elle a de plus un très bon niveau en français, ce qui facilite les traductions et lève les incompréhensions.

Mobilisant supports vidéo et exercices écrits, Sarah propose de réels cours d'anglais, sur-mesure, et non des discutions rémunérées comme beaucoup de profs..
