About Binh
My job title for most of the last 13 years has been the thing this listing is about. I have worked as an Analyst Programmer and then Analyst Developer inside Australian universities since 2013, first at RMIT and now at Swinburne University of Technology, sitting between the people who need a system and the people who build it.
I also teach the subject. I have been a sessional academic at RMIT University since 2017, and Business Systems Analysis is the course I have taught most. I have written the case studies students analyze, designed assessment tasks and marked the results, so I know the difference between an analysis that looks tidy on paper and one that would survive a real project.
I hold Professional Scrum Master II, a Master of Data Science with Distinction and a Bachelor of Business in Business Information Systems, both from RMIT University. I am a part-time PhD candidate in Information Systems at RMIT, with candidature confirmed in 2025.
Lessons in English or Vietnamese. I hold a current Working With Children Check.

Business analysis is not a software skill. It is the discipline of working out what a business actually needs, saying it clearly enough that someone can build it, and knowing when the stated requirement is not the real one. You do not need to write code to do it, and I do not teach coding here.
What I cover:
- Eliciting requirements. How to run a stakeholder interview and a workshop, what to ask when people describe a solution instead of a problem, and how to handle the stakeholder who is never available.
- Writing requirements that survive contact with a project. Functional and non-functional, user stories with acceptance criteria that a developer and a tester both read the same way.
- Process modeling. As-is and to-be, BPMN and plain flow diagrams, data and information flows, and finding the step everyone forgot to mention.
- Documentation people actually read: business cases, requirements specifications, gap analysis, traceability.
- Working with delivery teams. Agile and Scrum in practice, backlog refinement, what a BA does in each ceremony, and where the BA role ends and the product owner's begins.
- Career sessions: how BA roles are really advertised in Australia, what interviewers probe, and how to talk about experience you gained under a different job title.
Who this is for:
- People moving into business analysis from another role. This is the largest group I work with: testers, support staff, administrators, project coordinators, and developers who want out of the code.
- New and junior BAs who have the title but were never taught the craft.
- University students taking systems analysis, business information systems or requirements engineering subjects.
How it runs: online by webcam, 60 minutes by default, 90 minutes if we are working through a real document. Bring your own material where you can, a requirement you are stuck on or a process you cannot model cleanly, and we work on that instead of a textbook example. Your first lesson is free.
One boundary: I cannot tutor any student currently enrolled in a course I teach or mark at RMIT. If you are an RMIT student, tell me your course code when you get in touch and I will check first.
