I hold both the BA and MA in English. My professors always encouraged me to think outside the box. I encourage you to do the same. I want you to be creative and daring and to use your own experiences and knowledge as a foundation to spring forward.

I teach to motivate and inspire you to think beyond and outside the box: think that unique thought and reach your own conclusions.
I explain and ask questions. I explain again if I need to. I want to know what you think and how and why you came to that conclusion or that thought.
A typical lesson plan -- I prefer the term "mind trip" -- might be something like this: we read the Frost poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening." We talk about the imagery, the rhyme, etc, and then I would ask what you think the poem is about and why you think so.
What sets me apart? Passion and enthusiasm. When I taught in college a few years back, one of the words students used in their evaluations was enthusiasm. I want you to reach your own conclusions.
