About Mathu

I’m a UX Designer with three years of experience working on real products across industries like finance, insurance, and e-commerce. My work has focused on improving user experience in meaningful ways, including increasing conversion rates and simplifying complex digital journeys. Alongside my professional work, I’m also the founder of Design4Kids, an initiative focused on introducing young students in South Africa to UX design and digital skills. Teaching is already a big part of what I do.

I’m interested in tutoring because I’ve seen how powerful it is when someone finally gets it. UX and web design can feel overwhelming at first, especially with so many tools and terms, and I enjoy helping students break through that and build real confidence in their skills

I teach in English and keep my explanations simple and direct. I’m patient, structured, and I create a space where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.

In a typical lesson, we start by identifying the goal—whether it’s understanding a concept, improving a design, or building something from scratch. I guide students through the process step by step, using examples, exercises, and real projects. There’s always time for practice and feedback, so students leave each session with something they’ve worked on and understood.

My lessons are suited for beginners and intermediate learners, including students new to UX and web design, those transitioning into the field, or anyone who wants to strengthen their thinking and build a portfolio. I also support students preparing for internships or entry-level roles.

Students can expect a professional, reliable, and supportive learning experience. I take preparation seriously, I’m consistent, and I’m committed to helping each student make real progress.

About the lesson

I take a practical, hands-on approach to teaching UX and web design. My focus is on helping students understand how to think like a designer, not just how to use tools. I guide students through real-world problem solving so they can build skills they’ll actually use outside of lessons.

What makes my approach different is that I combine design thinking with real project experience. I teach students how to approach a problem, understand users, and make design decisions with intention. Instead of just showing “how,” I explain the reasoning behind each step. I also bring in insights from my work in the industry, so students get a clear picture of what good design looks like in practice.
I teach in English and keep explanations simple, clear, and structured so students don’t feel overwhelmed, especially if they are new to UX.

In a typical lesson, we start by understanding the goal of the session, then move into guided learning, whether that’s UX fundamentals, wireframing, or improving an existing design. Students will work on practical exercises, case studies, or their own projects, with feedback throughout. I also help students build a portfolio, which is key for anyone looking to get into the field.
