About Imogen
Hi! I’m Immy :)
I’m currently studying Animal Science at uni, with the goal of getting into Veterinary Bioscience and eventually becoming a vet. Animals have pretty much always been my thing! I’ve grown up around them, I have plenty of my own (including dogs, a cat, reptiles and snakes!), and I also work hands-on with animals alongside uni. I’m especially interested in animal behavior, welfare, biology, anatomy and physiology, and I genuinely LOVE learning about the why behind what animals do and how their bodies work.
Academically though, I definitely haven’t always been where I am now.
I struggled quite a bit with school and for a long time I didn’t really think I was an “academic” person. I have ADHD, and it took me a LONG time to realize that I wasn’t incapable of learning! I just hadn’t figured out how I was able to learn yet.
Since starting uni, I’ve put a lot of work into figuring that out. I’ve completely changed the way I study and approach learning, and managed to achieve a 7.0 GPA in my first semester, which still feels a little crazy to say considering where I started.
That’s probably the biggest reason I want to tutor.
I don’t just want to teach students who already love Biology and want to get an even better grade. I’d really love to help the students who want to understand but feel behind, overwhelmed, distracted, embarrassed to ask questions, or have convinced themselves they’re just “bad at science”.
I’m a massive believer that sometimes you just need someone to explain the exact same thing in a completely different way before your brain goes “OH… THAT’S what they mean”.
I’m pretty relaxed, I love a good diagram, I will absolutely come up with a weird analogy if it helps something stick, and there is genuinely no such thing as a stupid question with me.
If I can help another student go from feeling like they’re just not good at school to realizing they’re actually completely capable of doing well, I’d be pretty happy with that. :)

I know what it’s like to struggle at school and feel like you just don’t understand things the way everyone else seems to. I definitely wasn’t always a high-achieving student, and a huge part of getting to where I am now was figuring out how I actually learn and finding ways to make things make sense to me.
I also have ADHD, so I know firsthand that sitting there reading the same textbook paragraph 10 times doesn’t always magically make it go into your brain!! My lessons are ADHD-friendly and I’m more than happy to change things up, use diagrams and examples, break topics into smaller chunks, take things one step at a time, or approach something completely differently if the first explanation just isn’t clicking.
Since starting uni, I’ve completely turned my grades around and managed to achieve a 7.0 GPA, which is something younger me definitely wouldn’t have believed!
I’m currently studying Animal Science, and anything animal-related is definitely my biggest area of interest. I absolutely love animals and have a particular interest in animal biology, behaviour, welfare, anatomy and physiology. I also have hands-on experience working with animals, so I love being able to connect what we learn in biology to real animals and real-life examples.
My lessons are pretty relaxed and completely judgement-free. If you don’t understand something the first time (or the fifth time), that’s genuinely okay. We’ll find another way to explain it until it actually makes sense to you.
I can help with things like cells, genetics, evolution, ecology, animal biology, anatomy and physiology, as well as general biology and science concepts. I’m also more than happy to help with study techniques, revision, assignments and figuring out where to even start when everything feels a bit overwhelming.
More than anything, I want students to actually feel confident in what they’re learning and find a way of studying that works for their brain, rather than feeling like they’re just “bad at school”. :)
