About Lorien

I'm a first year student at ANU studying a bachelor of arts with likely a major in history or english. I am passionate about these areas of learning and aim to top my degree with a master of secondary education to teach what I love. I was not a very motivated student during highschool and hope that I could inspire students facing similar problems and motivate them to be passionate about subjects they are finding difficulty with. After taking a year off last year to work and travel, I found myself excited and keen about learning again, pushing me to work hard, and have seen this pay off the past semester with 2 HDs and a D in my 3 classes.

About the lesson

I base my teaching methodology around my own experience as a student. I have found that there have been three main principles that I've recognised in previous teachers that make a huge difference to how the experience of learning works. The first, a passion of the teacher in the subject itself that inspires and motivates the student. The second, a high expectation of the teacher in the student's ability to achieve, I truly believe that every person is capable, it is a teacher's job to help a student realise this. Finally, a teacher's in-depth knowledge of the subject they are teaching, and a flexibility in how they commuicate this to a student. This is the approach that I would bring to a role as a tutor.

A lesson can be cancelled up to 2 hours before the lesson is due to occur, and the student will not be charged a cancellation fee. If cancelled less that 2 hours before, a cancellation fee of $10 applies.
