About William
I have extensive experience with teaching and test prep, driven by my passion for teaching and my interest in mathematics. I began my career as a tutor when I volunteered for the AID Summer Program, in which I designed lesson plans and taught English to disadvantaged students in Taiwan. Soon thereafter, I worked as an instructor at Kumon, assisting students in understanding mathematical concepts and completing worksheets. As co-founder and president of Mu Alpha Theta (National Math Honor Society), I organized and ran countywide math contests, oversaw service projects, and coordinated in-school math tutoring. At Brown, I provide after-school enrichment programming at D'Abate Elementary School in inner-city Providence. My mathematical qualifications include scoring in the top 2.5% of students on the AMC10 to qualify for the AIME exam, being one of 18 students selected for a four week residential program to study discrete math at Rutgers University, and receiving perfect scores on AP Calculus BC, ACT Math, and SAT Math I and II. Other relevant courses I have taken include Multivariable Calculus, Statistics, Discrete Math, and Linear Algebra.

My teaching methods reflect my belief that math involves reasoning and problem solving, and not rote memorization. I always ensure that students understand the rationale behind the math, since formulas and equations can seem rather arbitrary. I also believe that it is essential to personalize each lesson to the student and his/her learning style. With that said, I look forward to tutoring mathematics for all grades and levels and helping students reach their academic goals!
