About Oliver
In summer 2023 I graduated from Durham with a Physics BSc, I am now pursuing a Masters in Computationally Applied Mathematics at Edinburgh. The reason why I chose these courses is the same reason I teach them - I find them truly fascinating. I love bringing examples of simple cases where the nuances of straightforward Physics and Maths can easily be seen in our day-to-day lives. Whether this is driving a car around a corner, skiing, orbits of planets or countless other things that we take for granted, being able to explain these in terms of Physical models is particularly rewarding to me.

My teaching method is entirely dependent on the needs of the tutee. I can fully appreciate that every student can be different, however, I would always try to encourage an interest for the subject itself, aside from the academic material. In my lessons I will draw on real-world examples and more problem-solving based questions to encourage an interest for the subject. I find visual learning tools can make some of the abstract mathematical concepts more explainable, I find Desmos graphing calculator to be particularly useful. I encourage students to raise any questions they have or bring previous tests or homeworks to our lessons so that we can go through previous mistakes and learn from them.
