About Toby
I am a recent first-class Economics graduate from the University of East Anglia and I'm soon to start studying for a Master’s degree in Economics at the University of St Andrews.
My academic background has given me a strong understanding of both microeconomics and macroeconomics, as well as experience in economic analysis, data interpretation and essay writing. I am particularly confident in helping students understand difficult concepts, apply theory to real-world examples and improve their exam technique.
My lessons are carefully structured around the AQA GCSE Economics specification. I focus on clear explanations, diagrams, application questions and guided exam practice, while adapting each lesson to the student’s individual needs and target grade.
I aim to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment in which students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My goal is not only to improve students’ knowledge, but also to build their confidence and help them approach exams with a clear and effective method.

The lessons focus on helping AQA GCSE Economics students apply their knowledge confidently to exam-style questions. Students will learn to structure developed answers using the PEEA method:
Point – make a clear economic point that answers the question.
Evidence – use information, figures or examples from the source material.
Explain – develop the economic reasoning by showing how or why the effect occurs.
Apply – link the reasoning directly to the business, market or economy described in the question.
Students will also develop confidence in interpreting economic data, drawing and explaining diagrams, using subject-specific terminology and responding appropriately to AQA command words such as explain, analyse, assess and evaluate.
A typical 60-minute lesson will be structured as follows:
1. A five-minute retrieval quiz based on the previous topic.
2. A fifteen-minute explanation of one model or concept from the AQA specification.
3. A ten-minute worked example, including any relevant calculations or economic diagrams.
4. A twenty-minute AQA exam-style question completed with guided support.
5. Ten minutes of marking, feedback and improvement using the official mark scheme.
Lessons will be adapted to the student’s current level, target grade and areas for improvement. The overall aim is for students to understand the economic theory and feel confident applying it independently under exam conditions.
