About Harry
I am a professional archaeologist and experienced academic writer, trained at the University of York (BA) and University College London (MA), where I graduated with Distinction and received the Margaret Orme Prize for the highest-performing undergraduate degree in my field. Alongside my academic work, I have worked as a Finds Liaison Officer with the British Museum and as a commercial archaeologist, giving me both practical field experience and a strong foundation in artefact analysis and interpretation.
Navigating theory, complex debates, or essay expectations can be incredibly overwhelming, and so I aim to make that process clearer and more manageable. I create structured, focused lessons that break down key ideas, build confidence in academic writing, and help students develop strong, original arguments grounded in their own evidence.
I work especially well with undergraduate and master’s students interested in European archaeology, material culture, and theory. I have recently completed postgraduate study myself, and so I am familiar with current marking criteria and academic expectations, and I know what examiners are looking for. At the same time, I am approachable and supportive, and I encourage all questions and discussions.
I want students to feel confident in their abilities. My role is not just to improve grades, but to help students think critically, write clearly, and engage with archaeology thoughtfully and independently. The students' voice should be clear and confident within their work, and I want to support that above all.

I am a graduate of the University of York (BA) and University College London (MA), receiving a Distinction in Archaeology and the Margaret Orme Prize for the highest-performing undergraduate degree in my field. I have extensive professional experience as a Finds Liaison Officer with the British Museum and as a commercial archaeologist, developing strong expertise in artefact analysis, recording, and material interpretation.
I am most effective working with undergraduate and master’s students interested in European archaeology, archaeological theory, and artefacts. I support nuanced and creative approaches to essay writing, as this is essential for achieving higher marks. Lessons combine theory and practice by engaging with a current academic debate and supporting students to challenge it through the creation and analysis of their own primary evidence. This could be through structured fieldwork, object-based study, or GIS. This approach fosters independent thinking, methodological confidence, and the ability to construct persuasive, evidence-led arguments. These elements are key to an effective dissertation.
I can also extend my knowledge to GCSE and A-level history, which I studied and passed with a top grade. I have a special interest in Russian history and the English Civil War, but support can be provided for any period.
