About Nathaniel
I'm a university student (20M) based in the Southwest of the UK, just outside Bristol. I study Archaeology at Cambridge and enjoy it very much - this September I'm doing some fieldwork with my supervisor in Italy!
I have for a long time been interested in culture, both my own and those in other parts of the world. My first university application was for Japanese Studies. I like English Literature for its anthropological flair - a country's literature is in large part a reflection of its society, and English society throughout the ages, from Chaucer to Orwell, is layered and fascinating.
Critically discussing this aspect of the subject with students to foster their own interests is my overall aim when tutoring, and being a part of the Student Parent scheme at Cambridge (mentoring your subject's first-years at the start of each academic year to help them integrate) has equipped me with the skills to engage with people in this manner to a consistently high standard.

My lessons are primarily for KS3 students and those taking 11+ in English, and as such they are structured to occupy a middle ground between fostering a long-term interest in a subject and simply getting a student to a short-term academic goal like a test.
As a result, I aim to connect curriculums to a student's extracurricular interests where possible while also familiarising them with mark schemes, critical discussions of exemplar answers and their own work, and the basics of good timetabling and time management. In my experience this is effective, because most of what it takes to succeed in school is consistent work and the motivation to do it. The latter can come in many forms but is most powerful when, at some level, you're interested in what you're studying.
Lessons are typically 45min. I am relatively new to online tutoring but volunteered as an English Language/Literature Teaching Assistant twice a week for a primary school in my area while I was in Sixth Form, and as an Undergraduate student at university I'm right in the thick of practicing all the skills I teach.
