About Riyaz

Hi, I'm Riyaz, and I would like to tell you a little bit about myself, my career, and my 14 years of experience as a math tutor.

I started to enjoy teaching as I simplified concepts for my peers and cleared their doubts. Teaching was always a side thing for me, but now it is my passion and my livelihood.

Teaching IGCSE and IB students is my specialty. This involves helping students to understand math better and to be more confident problem solvers. I draw real satisfaction when I can further the skills of a stuck student.

When I am not teaching, my interests lie in architecture, science, and design and how the different skills come together. This is especially important to me as I enjoy ensuring my students of all ages understand the cross-disciplinary links.

About the lesson

Mathematics has an undeserved reputation for being impossible to master. I think most students can do math, they just need to stop trying to memorize everything and actually learn the concepts.

When I teach, I prioritize the students’ comprehension of the concepts and only afterward do I address solving problems and preparing for exams. I customize all aspects of a lesson to the specific needs of the student including pace and strengths and weaknesses.

After teaching IGCSE and IB students for 14 years, I have personally observed that comprehension and confidence correlate positively. I have successfully raised students’ grades, but I am most proud of giving students the gift of logic and the confidence to tackle problems.

I make lessons flexible, patient, and structured so that students gain a love for math and a confidence they have never had before.
