About Stephanie
Beginners and returning learners often wonder if they can actually play the songs they hear on the radio. It turns out that my path began when open mic regulars at my shows started asking how I managed to keep the rhythm and melody moving at the same time. After 13 years spent gigging across the American South and Southwest, I have realized that the guitar is rarely just a solo instrument.
I hold a Diploma in Music Performance from the Musicians Institute Hollywood to back up those 6 years of playing acoustic sets in small venues. Teaching guitar is about bridging the gap between those stage experiences and the questions I get after a set. You will find that my approach is pretty relaxed but keeps a firm grip on the technical side of things.
I am just a singer-guitarist who enjoys talking shop between sets. Let me know if you want to grab a pick and chat about your favorite tunes.

Sometimes I admit that the hardest part of playing is simply deciding which rhythm to start with. Most students want to play songs right away, so I turn your requests into simplified arrangements that make sense from day 1.
We spend time on strumming patterns and rhythm guitar to make sure you have a solid foundation before moving into electric technique or ear training. I also make sure we cover tuning and maintenance because nobody wants to sound bad while practicing at home. Reading sheet music is on the table if you want it, but I prioritize the feel of the song first. Writing your own music is a natural step once you see how those chords connect.
I keep things structured so you do not feel overwhelmed by all the moving parts. You are going to sound like a musician from the very first hour.
