About John
I am a draftsman with over 35 years experience in engineering & construction. My original trade training was before computers. It included formal training in freehand drawing, technical drawing, water and acrylic color painting. I worked on drawing boards for the first ten years of my drafting career. I also have high level computer & digital imaging skills. Numerous apprentices and work experience students have benefited from my training & experience. Over the years I have met many interesting & unusual characters, and have developed techniques and sense of humor for drawing caricatures.

- My approach to teaching is to firstly establish each student's aims & expectations.
- select an appropriate example to begin with, give an overview, and break it down into the required steps to produce the artwork.
- Each step becomes a lesson including materials & tools needed, and worked examples of the techniques & concepts covered in each step/lesson. Some of the more complex concepts may require more than one lesson.
- I encourage students to ask questions, submit worked examples and finished works for review/comment.
- practice, practice, practice for best results.
