About Yaqub

YAQUB KAYODE LUQMAN (ALBAYYINAT) is a visual artist, art educator and a proponent of art for visual literacy and therapeutic purposes in the environment. He had his primary and secondary education in Lagos State, the city where he was born. Luqman had his art training at the Department of Fine Arts of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, where he majored in painting in 2014. He later received a Professional Diploma in Education in 2015 due to his interest in helping to entrench the spread of artistic skill and knowledge.

The focus of Luqman’s artistic practice is on the exploration of the infinite possibilities in painting as an expressive art form. He is inspired and fascinated by the elements of colour and line, not only for their qualities that enable one to create shapes and forms but their fluidity and power in the hands of an artist for the expression of creative ideas. The artists understanding of these elements has made his style of painting deep and vivid as seen in his abstract works, still- life, landscape, murals and illustrations.

As a Muslim, Luqman practices Islamic Calligraphy, an art form known for its aesthetics and sacred value. His religious background has been his driving force to specialize in modern Arabic calligraphic painting. Luqman has also participated in several art exhibitions and workshops among which are Landscapes & forms (2011), AFAS Exhibition (2011, 2012 & 2013), African Arts & crafts (AFAC Expo 2013), Arts and Calligraphy International Exhibition (Feb. 2018) and International Batik Workshop (April 2018), Islamic Art Exhibition (COVID-19: Artistic Expressions of Artist’s Impressions July 30-August 6, 2020.

Luqman is currently an art educator at Great Heights Academy, Kado in Abuja.
Luqman experiments on the application of design and aesthetics for visual literacy, its use in and outside of the school environments for better perceptions of concepts in the various parts of the larger society. He is a committed member of the following associations: ICICE/IACC Community of Muslim Artist, Society of Nigerian Artist (SNA FCT), The Creative Minds, ARTISTS IN MEDICINE followership for Professionals in Arts and Healthcare and AVATAN, F.CT.

About the lesson

I am a visual artist and educator that focus on students centre learning strategy. I also implore hand's-on teaching techniques during my mentoring session and ensure that students work with instructions and art media; which will enhance their creative skills, aesthetic value and analytical sense. As an educator,I appreciate my students input and efforts in making artworkand assist them to identify their mistake and make corrections when necessary.
