About Hugo
I am an artist and illustrator, graduated from the BBAA Arts faculty of the Basque Country and having completed my studies at the UdK (University of the Arts) in Berlin. I lived in this city for many years and then moved to Munich and returned to Bilbao. From Berlin I keep the art gallery I work with. It was in Berlin where I also worked for an advertising agency as an illustrator and junior art director, for brands like Deutsche Telekom, MTv, Umbro, Siemens, ... Now I am a freelancer as an illustrator and artist and I embark on the task of sharing my art-knowledge as I have done in some occasions as an invited teacher at the school in Gstaad, Switzerland or in the field of culture classrooms in Berlin.

I offer two types of painting, in the studio and outdoors. In both cases I am guiding the students with theory and practice and helping them on their own canvas if it is to their liking. The studio starts with photographs or prepares a still life with lighting, and outdoors, picturesque places in nature or populations are chosen, either for their natural beauty or for their cultural value. Once the motif has been chosen, it is decided whether to paint all of it or reduce the view or the elements to favor the composition. It begins with a charcoal drawing (graphite can also be used) to which a brush dipped in turpentine is passed to fix the line. In the drawing, the requirements of the drawing are met: volume, perspective, proportions, etc. without detailing too much as details are applied with color. It then happens to give a fairly diluted stain of color to cover the background colors. Then, color zones are defined to go more and more into detail until reaching the final finish.
