About John
John Austin Park was born and raised in Florida and attended the New York Academy of Art where he received his MFA in painting and was awarded a post-graduate fellowship. He
currently is based in Jacksonville, Florida. The artist is drawn to the inherent narrative possibilities of figuration and environments with a sense of an idealized and somewhat
fantasized representation. His current work has been heavily influenced by the abstract qualities of the industrial landscape and modern life that shares a language with artists such as Charles Sheeler, Giorgio de Chirico, and George Tooker. Mr. Park’s work has been in various shows and private collections throughout New York, Connecticut, Virginia, and Florida.

My method of teaching is to assess the student's level of artistic observational skills and what they want to improve through whatever medium they choose to focus on.
A typical lesson can include either allowing the student to pick a subject and reference they want to work on to completion, or I provide a subject (such as a still life) that we can cover all the areas of fundamental drawing/painting instruction.
My lessons can be tailored towards beginners and basics of learning the media all the way to more detailed instruction of how a particular medium can be used.
I like to provide context and art historical examples in the lessons to support the techniques you will learn.
