About Ash
Ash Conrad is a Brooklyn-based artist and educator whose work lives at the intersection of biology, ritual, and embodiment. With a dual background in biology and studio art from UNC Chapel Hill, and an upcoming MGPH/MSW from NYU, Ash explores how observation, experimentation, and emotion intersect across both scientific and creative practice.
After years spent working in oncology research labs, tattoo studios, and behind the bar, Ash brings a rare mix of precision and human connection to their teaching. Their classes emphasize curiosity, process, and play — treating drawing as both an act of study and a ritual of transformation.
Ash’s illustrations and visual research have appeared in Nature Reviews Disease Primers, The Journal of Clinical Investigation, and Event Horizon Magazine, and their art has been exhibited in New York, Berlin, and Chapel Hill. Whether through pencil, pigment, or linework on skin, their teaching invites students to explore the living systems — biological and emotional — that make us who we are.
