About Dr Liz

I'm Liz! Having been fond of science from being in primary school, I went to Uni to study Microbiology in 2010. I learnt about all kinds of things, but I really became fascinated by viruses. In 2020 I completed a Master's degree in Virology (the irony of doing this during the COVID pandemic is not lost on me..). More recently I completed a PhD in pharmacology, focusing on finding treatments for infectious diseases.

In the meantime, I've spent the last 12 years working as a researcher in infectious disease pharmacology - I look into new and improving treatments for all kinds of viral diseases including HIV, Hepatitis and COVID.

I've published a number of peer-reviewed articles, have presented at international conferences and I am part of the editorial board for academic journals.

About the lesson

I offer friendly proofreading and editing help for students who want to improve their writing and feel more confident about what they submit.

Alongside the technical details, I can help with things like grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, and overall flow, while making sure your work still sounds like you. I also give useful feedback and suggestions so you can see how to strengthen your writing for next time.

Sessions are flexible, usually between 30 minutes and 2 hours depending on what you need help with. If you prefer, you can also just send me your work and I’ll go through it on my own time and send back detailed corrections and comments.

I have a strong background in biomedical sciences and pharmacology, and I’ve spent a lot of time working on essays, lab reports, dissertations, and research papers during my own studies. So I understand the kind of writing expectations at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and the common issues you might run into.

This service is ideal for secondary school, university, and postgraduate students who want clearer, more polished work - whether it’s an essay, dissertation, thesis, personal statement, report, or journal-style assignment.

Whether you just want a final check before submitting or more detailed help to improve your writing overall, I aim to make the process supportive, straightforward, and stress-free.
